Why I Recommend The Therapy Lab to VigourFit Members

I was first introduced to Kavina, the owner of The Therapy Lab, around two years ago by one of my clients. At the time, they were receiving regular treatments from Kavina and had nothing but good things to say about her.

I was training for a half marathon at the time, and as my running volume increased each week, my legs were taking more and more of a beating. It was becoming noticeable that I wasn't taking care of my recovery properly, and something needed to be done.

Up until that point, I'd mainly used physiotherapists and chiropractors when dealing with injuries I'd picked up over the years. This time, I decided to try sports massage and reached out to Kavina.

Knowing who to see

I think it's important to understand that different professionals have different areas of expertise.

Physiotherapists are trained to assess and manage a wide range of musculoskeletal problems and injuries, particularly when someone has pain, reduced function or an injury that requires assessment and rehabilitation.

Sports massage therapy, on the other hand, can be useful for people looking to support their recovery, manage muscular tension and look after the general wear and tear that can come with training and everyday life.

For me, a good sports massage therapist can be an important part of the bigger picture. It sits alongside the things we can do ourselves to look after our bodies, such as sensible training, mobility work, strength training, recovery and appropriate rest.

And that's where Kavina really stood out to me.

My first experience at The Therapy Lab

When I first visited The Therapy Lab, I received a warm welcome and a big smile from Kavina, which immediately put me at ease.

I noticed the qualifications and certificates displayed around the treatment room, but what impressed me most was the level of rapport Kavina built from the very beginning.

The first 15–20 minutes weren't spent rushing into the treatment. Instead, Kavina took the time to get to know me, my training history, my running, my lifestyle and what I was trying to achieve.

She asked questions about my day-to-day routine and even my previous fitness background. This gave her a much better understanding of me as an individual rather than simply treating the area that happened to feel tight on the day.

It might sound obvious that this should happen during an initial consultation, and many therapists do this well. But I found Kavina went further than I'd experienced previously.

The treatment

Once the consultation was complete, Kavina focused on the areas that needed the most attention.

It quickly became apparent that many of the problems I was experiencing were partly down to my own lack of recovery.

As a coach, I spend a lot of time encouraging my clients to take care of their mobility, recovery and general wellbeing. Yet I wasn't exactly practising what I preached!

After working through some of the tight and overused areas, Kavina highlighted the things I needed to work on between treatments if I wanted to continue running comfortably.

That was something I really appreciated.

I don't want to see a therapist who simply treats me, books my next appointment and sends me on my way. I want someone who helps me understand what I can do myself between appointments too.

Why I started referring my clients

After that first appointment, I knew Kavina was someone I could trust.

Not only did I feel that she knew her stuff, but it was obvious that she genuinely cared about the people she worked with and wanted to provide a high-quality service.

I went back to the studio and started referring my clients to her.

Over time, that referral relationship developed into a genuine professional relationship. We now refer clients to one another where we feel the other person can provide something valuable, helping our clients access the right support for their individual needs.

That's particularly important to me at VigourFit.

I don't want to simply provide a great training session. I want to create a wider environment where our members have access to trusted professionals and useful resources that can support their health and wellbeing.

I've now referred a number of VigourFit members to Kavina, and many have gone on to return to her regularly. The feedback I've received has been consistently positive, which gives me even more confidence in recommending her.

My recommendation

If you're looking for a sports massage therapist in Leicester, particularly for deep tissue massage, muscular tension or general maintenance alongside your training, I'd highly recommend giving Kavina and The Therapy Lab a try.

I wouldn't recommend someone to a VigourFit member unless I was confident they would receive the same level of care and attention that I'd expect for myself.

Kavina has earned that trust.
